MICHAEL E. DEMATT
    Michael DeMatt’s practice is concentrated in the areas of criminal defense and personal injury litigation – including automobile accidents, fall downs and other types of cases – but he also practices in the areas of unemployment compensation , workers’ compensation and general civil litigation. During his time at Berk Whitehead Kerr & Turin, Mr. DeMatt has had the opportunity to handle several high profile criminal cases, including a death penalty case and some computer crimes cases, and has successfully litigated criminal trials in both federal and state court.

    Mr. DeMatt is originally from Newark, Delaware, where he attended the University of Delaware, graduating with a degree in English Literature. While at the University of Delaware, he studied abroad in Italy, played club lacrosse, and was an assistant coach for his former high school lacrosse team. Following graduation, Mr. DeMatt worked as an instructor at Kaplan, teaching standardized test preparation, helping high school students get into college and college students into graduate school.

    He then attended law school at Washington & Lee University in Lexington, Virginia, graduating in 2000. While in law school, Mr. DeMatt somehow found the time to play rugby and was treasurer, and then president of the Washington & Lee Law Rugby Club. Also during this time, Mr. DeMatt met his wife, who brought him north to western Pennsylvania after graduation.

    Upon graduating from law school, Mr. DeMatt worked for a year with a small plaintiff’s firm in Pittsburgh, before accepting a position with Berk Whitehead Kerr & Turin.

    Mr. DeMatt has taught a legal continuing education class, attended by other lawyers and judges, regarding privacy and evidentiary issues involving computers and computerized evidence.

    Mr. DeMatt is a member of the American, Pennsylvania and Westmoreland Bar Associations, as well as the Association of Trial Lawyers of America.
